KMA, Inc. began in 1994 as a Risk Management and Insurance Brokerage firm serving clients throughout the world and as our world has changed, so has KMA.  Today, KMA challenges the traditional approach to buying insurance by encouraging the buyer to “Know My Alternatives”.  Frequently, buyers spend all their time attempting to source the least cost product, rather than measuring the “total cost of risk”.  Negotiating insurance contracts and price is merely the end result of a deliberate and thoughtful process, which should be examined well in advance of the marketing process.

Buyers of insurance have varying degrees of sophistication and accordingly can select services from KMA to assist in the Risk Management process and to ultimately generate the lower cost of risk.  Know My Alternatives (KMA) truly presents a refreshing alternative to the insurance buying process. 

KMA continues to develop alternative solutions for client needs and these solutions have evolved into services available today to further the relationships with our clients. 

In 1995, KMA developed an offshore Captive Insurance Company for a client in the Transportation business to better serve the client and their customers.  Today, KMA is a leading provider of transportation insurance countrywide, representing the major specialty insurance companies and the clients for this industry segment.

In 1996, KMA Claims Management was formed to address the problems experienced by a client with significant workers’ compensation exposure in multiple jurisdictions.  KMA developed a dedicated claims management team with real time oversight and coordination of all parties countrywide to facilitate timely management and reduction of claims costs.  Today, this service has evolved to include legal services associated with claims issues and is a cornerstone service available to KMA clients.

Through an acquisition in 1999, KMA entered the Insurance Consulting business representing a variety of clients in Minnesota, who prefer to outsource the Risk Management challenges of their business.  There are many alternatives available to this client base and KMA has expanded services throughout the country, from project based to Risk Management solutions.
